Elenger starts delivering natural gas from the Lithuanian vessel Independence

Elenger, the second largest trader of natural gas in Latvia, has started supplying natural gas from the Klaipeda floating liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal, increasing the variety of available resources and opportunities to offer more competitive prices to natural gas consumers in Latvia.

The company has signed an agreement with Klaipedos Nafta for the supply and transfer of natural gas to the gas network from the Klaipeda floating terminal vessel Independence, thus increasing the safety of Latvian natural gas users with another source of supply for our market.

“By starting deliveries from the Klaipeda floating terminal, we are increasing the diversity and independence of our customers. For us, this means access to the global market, while our customers will benefit from better prices, as there are now more sources of supply, ”says Dāvis Skulte, Chairman of the Board of Elenger Latvija.

So far, Elenger has purchased a small volume of natural gas from the LNG terminal in Klaipeda and transported it to customers in Estonia and Latvia with customized trucks. The purpose of the new agreement is to gasify the purchased LNG and to redirect it to the gas grid for supply to customers by pipeline.

At the end of 2017, Elenger signed a contract for the supply of small volumes of liquefied natural gas via the Klaipeda terminal. 2600 tonnes of LNG have been purchased in Lithuania in two years. Elenger also supplies natural gas and LNG from Russia, Latvia, Finland and Poland. Elenger is the largest supplier of LNG in Northern Europe.
