Half of the natural gas required for the next heating season has been delivered – fifth LNG carrier arrives
Elenger, the largest private energy company in Finland and the Baltic region, has secured half of the natural gas volumes required for the upcoming heating season. Today, the company’s fifth liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo of the year arrived at the Port of Port of Inkoo from the United States.
The fifth LNG shipment to the region was delivered by a tanker built in 2015. Measuring 290 metres in length and 46 metres in width, the vessel is one of the large-scale LNG carriers regularly operating between North America and Europe. It arrived in Inkoo from Sabine Pass LNG Terminal, a major U.S. hub for natural gas liquefaction and trading.

“By the beginning of summer, we have secured half of the gas volumes required for the coming winter. These volumes have already been delivered to our region via the ports of Inkoo in Finland and Port of Klaipėda, while contracts for the remaining autumn deliveries have already been concluded,” said Dāvis Skulte, Chairman of the Management Board of Elenger Latvia.
“The Inčukalns Underground Gas Storage Facility, which plays a critical role in ensuring security of supply across Finland and the Baltic region, is being filled according to plan. There is therefore no reason for concern regarding natural gas availability for the upcoming winter. Over the past few weeks, natural gas prices have declined by approximately 20%, while future price movements will largely depend on developments in the Strait of Hormuz,” Skulte added.
This spring, Elenger has received a total of five LNG cargoes — three via the Port of Inkoo in Finland and two via the Port of Klaipėda in Lithuania. The gas delivered to Klaipėda was transferred to the floating LNG terminal FSRU Independence and subsequently transported through the Lithuanian and Latvian gas transmission systems to the Inčukalns underground gas storage facility.
Additional deliveries are scheduled for autumn. The company sources gas shipments from Norway and the United States.
