Elenger will bring an additional LNG cargo to Finland

Elenger, the largest private energy company in Finland and the Baltic region, will bring an additional LNG cargo from the United States to Inkoo terminal in the second half of November to cover Finland’s gas consumption, the company is ready to bring further supplies during the winter season.

“The market can handle the Balticconnector’s situation and it is possible to cover Finland’s consumption volume based on the Inkoo terminal – there is enough gas and tankers available in America and Europe, additional cargoes can be ordered quite quickly, and the Inkoo terminal already has previous experience operating in the ongoing gas demand mode,” stated Pasi Näkki, CEO of Elenger Suomi.

“This week, we have taken an important step forward – Gasgrid has announced the possible restart time of Balticconnector, and Inkoo terminal is establishing the slot booking rules for the winter. Elenger, for its part, is ready to prove that we are capable of being up to the task in a challenging situation and guarantee deliveries to our customers,” said Näkki.

Elenger has tripled its LNG deliveries in 2023 – instead of last year’s five ships, the company will be bringing already its 17th shipload of LNG to the region this year.

“As previously reported, Elenger, as the only natural gas trader, cooperates with both large terminals in the region and is thus able to cover the gas demand of our customers. The regular supply of liquefied natural gas and the high filling of natural gas storage in Latvia allow us to calmly face the winter,” said Dāvis Skulte, Chairman of the Board of Elenger Latvia.

In the past, natural gas reached the Finland and Baltic region mainly via pipelines from Russia, this direction has been closed for nearly a year and a half and a full-scale turn to the west has taken place. Natural gas is now brought in liquefied form to the terminals in Inkoo in Finland and Klaipeda in Lithuania, where it is regasified and fed into the gas pipeline. The LNG supplies imported by Elenger have certificates of origin, the gas mostly comes from the United States and Norway.

Operating in five markets – Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland – Elenger grew last year to become the largest private energy company with in Finland and the Baltic region. The group offers its customers natural gas in the form of pipeline gas, compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquefied natural gas (LNG) and operates the largest gas network in Estonia and Latvia. Elenger group is actively engaged in international energy trade and develops a renewable energy portfolio in the form of solar energy and biomethane production and sales. In native market Estonia, Elenger is called Eesti Gaas.
